Duke Energy Renewables entered the wind power industry in 2007 and has since invested over $2.5 billion into growing its renewable operations. By 2013, it is expected to own and operate an estimated 1800 MW of wind power in six states across the U.S. The solar fleet is also poised for rapid growth and is expected to double in size within the next year. The Renewable Energy Monitoring Center (REMC) is the central hub of communications and operations for this growing portfolio of commercial renewable assets. The REMC currently monitors over 1200 MW of wind power generation and 58.8 MW of solar generation. The center is committed to delivering world-class monitoring services on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year.
OSIsoft provides the essential tools needed for the daily operations of the REMC. In a business structured around operating equipment from multiple manufacturers, the PI System has become the primary platform for monitoring in the REMC. Advanced use of the PI System has allowed the REMC to increase in value by enabling the development of second-to-none monitoring capabilities through data standardization and visualization. Its ability to collect and analyze reliable historical data has enhanced communication across a vast network of operators, plant managers and on-site personnel. It has also proven to be an excellent asset for the REMC as it continues to develop tools for wind and solar performance monitoring.
Nick joined the Duke Energy renewables group in early 2010. His work in the Renewable Energy Monitoring Center focuses on creating new and innovative displays for operators to monitor real time plant performance. With a background in engineering and business, his primary interest lies in the area of solar farm development.
