Calpine has implemented PI throughout its’ 60+ power generation fleet. This data is then transmitted through the network infrastructure to a centralized PI server. This server not only serves PI data to PI client tools, but other enterprise applications such as our Energy Management System, our Operations Portal, and Maximo maintenance systems. PI is used to acquire, process, and communicate key operations information such as megawatts, fuel, steam production, emissions data, and ISO pricing. Local site PI servers are also used to support key engineering functions such as plant design validation, performance testing, and plant betterment studies. We have also internally developed custom Client Tools (PI ProcessBook/PI DataLink) that allow this data to be more easily requested and transmitted.
