Petronas - Rotating Equipment Monitoring
In recent years, assets were deploying various Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) remote monitoring system solutions for different types of OEM, which require additional hardware installation at site, significant capital expenditure and a monthly subscription for each OEMs. Defying the norm, PETRONAS Upstream Operational Excellence team has decided to embark on the digital journey by developing in-house monitoring and analysis too using PI System/PI Vision, which is capable to identify anomalies trends, highlight potential incipient failures and identify opportunities for reliability improvement of the turbomachinery equipment.
The pilot implementation was conducted in 2017 for two units of turbomachinery equipment, which are supercritical equipment at a particular asset.
Musreen Azwan Mustafa
Musreen Azwan Mustafa is currently the lead for Asset Integrity Data Analyst for PETRONAS Project Delivery & Technology (PD&T). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Sheffield, United Kingdom and a master’s degree in Control Systems Engineering from the same university. He started his career as Control System Engineer in a power company in Wakefield, United Kingdom before joining PETRONAS in March 2010 as Well Data Analyst. He has then moved around in the company as facilities engineering, process and operations data analyst. He started the PI System implementation for PETRONAS Upstream in 2013 for Erb West platform, east Malaysia.
Khairul Anwar B Mohd Nor
Technical Professional in Rotating Equipment with more 20 years of cumulative experience in Machine Condition Monitoring (MCM), Operations & Maintenance of Turbo machinery and wide range of Rotating Machinery repair & refurbishment – Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), compressor, pumps including micro turbine and multi phase pumps.
Pioneer in Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) in PETRONAS Carigali. Has applied various CBM techniques including vibration, thermography, gas leak detection, borescope, Lube Oil Sampling & Analysis, Machine Performance Monitoring.
Has experience in managing and steward rotating equipment reliability management and engineering program.
Currently based at PETRONAS Digital Collaboration Center (PDCC), PETRONAS Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur. Leveraging on his vast experience, he has been tasked to lead Operation Team of PETRONAS Rotating Equipment Analytics (PROTEAN) and worked on OSIsoft PI data since 2018, covering 126 units of Turbomachinery and critical pumps across PETRONAS Upstream Malaysia and International assets
