NAM's Offshore PI Project
Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij BV (NAM) requires that all process data from its offshore platforms be made available at various onshore locations to operators, process technologists, process engineers and management personnel. The current operating strategy at NAM is to add more unmanned platforms in the North Sea, so it was vital to NAM to get a system and process in place that is a standard for future operations. NAM chose the OSIsoft PI Server, whose data historian plays a central role, as its solution. Emerson took on the challenge of bringing data from over 35,000 tags from different DCS systems (and from different DCS vendors) from the offshore platforms into the onshore PI server. In this presentation NAM and Emerson share what was involved with the project and how the project became a success. Significance: Remote access to real time operational data makes possible integration of unmanned platforms into an enterprise wide monitoring system.
Emerson Process Management
Ing. Arjan Korzilius works as an MES consultant at Emerson Process Management in Rijswijk and is involved in MES and PI projects. He has 12 years experience in the industrial and process automation markets. Arjan lived and worked in the USA and the UK prior to joining Emerson Process Management in early 2007. He is a graduate of HTS Chemische Technologie with a BSc. in Chemical Engineering.

Theo Huizinga is an instrument and control automation engineer in the NAM ONEgas project group in Assen. He worked for 16 years at several companies as a hardware and software engineer in the field of industrial control and automation, mainly in oil and gas exploration. Two years ago he became an official staff member of Shell dealing with DCS, ESD and FGS systems. Currently he is involved in the ONEgas SCADA replacement project and lifetime extension projects of the offshore platforms. His education includes HTS Electrical technical high school with a BSc. in Electronics, graduating in electronics, information technology and control & automation.
