Integrating Data into Digital Power Grids
Electricity grid operators are employing digital technologies to adapt to new challenges in transmitting and distributing power. This includes sharing operating data between companies, using predictive maintenance to reduce outages, and experimenting with artificial intelligence for grid balancing. The extent to which grid digitalization is happening differs by region and company. This presentation will go over BloombergNEF findings on European utility digitalization with an emphasis on the role of open source data and software.

Eleonore is an analyst on the Digital Industry team at BloombergNEF. This team analyses developments in new technologies to assess what impact they might have on the future of energy and industrials. The team’s work covers the Internet of Things, blockchain, cybersecurity, data analytics and machine learning. This includes understanding the business strategy of industrials, startups, utilities, investors and tech firms. Eleonore focuses on power system digitalization, looking at how digital technologies change the way utilities manage and run generation, transmission and retail.
Eleonore holds an MSc Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, and a BSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
Richard currently serves as OSIsoft's Chief Technology Officer focusing on long term strategic planning, business and technology alignment, strategic partnerships, alliances and research and innovation programs. Looking at today's challenges, Richard is exploring the benefits of employing operations information technology for societies, communities and industry to better understand and manage their relationship with resources, industries and commerce with the goal of helping these greater systems to thrive.
Richard began his career at OSIsoft in 1990 and has held the role of Chief Software Architect and Director of Engineering.
