CORE Usage of PI System Improves Curtailment Strategies and Increases Production
Formerly curtailment set points were sent individually to every wind farm. This added to all the individual inefficiencies causing unnecessary production losses.
To improve production during TSO restrictions, Iberdrola planned to take advantage of the capability of the PI Asset Framework (PI AF) and PI Advanced Calculation Engine (PI ACE) to sum up real and theoretical production from wind farm to business level. Having this data for the different regions could help to decide which wind farms to shut down.
Taking advantage of their EA, Iberdrola Renewables had a four day training session on PI AF, and the CoE supported CORE with a solution to solve performance problems. The solution inserted AF calculated data in PI Server through ACE. This made it possible to build a real time decision making tool to improve CORE curtailment strategies in only a few months.
Mrs. Eva Lopez joined Iberdrola Renovables in March 2003 as an IT Systems Engineer to help launch Iberdrola Renovables Operation Center (CORE), after working at ISF (a subsidiary company of the Spanish utility Union Fenosa) for several years in the Unix Administration Department. She has 10 years experience in real time protocols and systems, and is currently responsible for the administration of Oracle, SQL and PI System databases, their integration with the rest of the CORE IT infrastructure and the management of all new developments based on them. Mrs. Lopez is also in charge of the remote meter reading IT infrastructure for retrieving billing data from Iberdrola Renovables’ generating plants. Her education and background are in Telecommunications.
After working for several years in IT Services at IBM and Orange, Maite joined Iberdrola Renovables in April 2006. She first worked in the Technical Services department of the Production Division and then in March 2008 joined Iberdrola Renovables Operation Center (CORE) to help integrate different technologies into the CORE infrastructure. Currently she is working on new services projects aimed at improving internal operating procedures. She has a Mathematics Degree with an additional program in Atmosphere Modelling.
