Real-time events generated by a Distributed Control System (DCS) and/or the OSIsoft PI System® must be recorded and monitored carefully. As a result, Operations Managers are under ever-growing pressure to maintain control on the manual and automated aspects of their business and report event and KPI details to various stakeholders. Potentially dangerous real-time events consistently occur across industrial plants and personnel require a tool to record and manage them. Rich data from real-time systems adds value to Shift Handovers and other human procedures such as start-ups and visual inspections. Not integrating this real-time data into human processes can seriously impact site efficiency, production and safety. To remedy these pains, companies across the world utilize j5 Event Manager, ensuring that real-time events are properly recorded, and the correct human workflows are put in place. For example, if a plant boiler goes above a recommended temperature, the j5 Event Manager can record this in the j5 Operations Logbook. Therefore, the j5 Event Manager allows workers to react to site events effectively and ensures all high-risk events and trends are recorded thoroughly.
The j5 Event Manager saves time by making it easy for site personnel to get notified immediately (via the PI Tag Watch List) of any event or KPI excursions or warnings in a single easy-to-understand summary view. It improves the awareness of site issues by providing a window into the real-time process within a familiar web browser environment. It improves site-wide communication because Incidents, Alarms and Abnormal Readings are made available to site personnel in real-time. It assists with record keeping and reporting for compliance purposes, and it ensures that information is retained in a consistent format for easy retrieval and analysis in future. The j5 Event Manager is one of the many tools within the j5 Operations Management Platform that can collect and display real-time data from the OSIsoft PI System.
Client-side: Any authorized user can access the j5 Event Manager from standard browsers (Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox) with a network connection to the central server. No other client-side software is required. Central Server: j5 Event Manager requires a central application server running Windows Server 2012+ and a SQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL database. A hosted or virtual machine is also feasible for the central server. PI System Integration: j5 Operations Management Software offers a standard interface with the OSIsoft PI System for the integration of real-time and historical data, assets and event frames. This data can be used for reports, detail and workflows triggered by events. The following other j5 Applications are available on the same user interface: j5 Operations Logbook, j5 Shift Handover, j5 Standing Orders, j5 Inspection Rounds, j5 Work Instructions, j5 Permit to Work, j5 Incident Management, j5 Action Management, j5 Management of Change, j5 Product Movements and j5 IndustraForm® Templates (a flexible technology for transforming spreadsheets and forms into enterprise applications). j5 IndustraForm® Templates, j5 Inspection Rounds, j5 Operations Logbook and j5 Standing Orders are also available on j5 Mobile.
