PI World Gothenburg: think big

Where are companies in their digital transformation journey?

Way past the pilot project stage, if you judge by the lineup at PI World Gothenburg, taking place September 16-19 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Companies from across the industrial spectrum will provide insights into their digital strategies. Some of the highlights include:

  • Saudi Aramco on Quality Control for Crude Oil. The world's largest company will discuss how it uses an in-house solution along with the PI System and PI Vision to detect anomalies and improve quality across more than 50 plants.
  • Toyota Aims for Zero. Toyota has set a goal of zero CO2 impact by 2050. To get there, the company has deployed the PI System in eight European factories to lower power consumption by mining energy, weather and production data.
  • What Can 150,000+ Sensors Do for Life Sciences? Ask Lonza, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer who will share the results of two initiatives with Microsoft and OSIsoft to boost productivity.
  • Renewables Scale Up. EDF will show off in-house analytics that cut downtime on wind turbines with 400,000 data streams. Argentina's YPF will show how it rates the performance of third party wind providers (and what happens when they miss their KPIs) while StatKraft will explain its Hydro Dashboard Project for optimizing hydro plants.
  • The Internet of Gold. NewmontGoldcorp will discuss how it drove $8 million in throughput improvements in 1 month and anticipates $30 million in one year through better decision support tools for its employees. An example of AI helping, not displacing, people. 
  • And the Internet of Potatoes. Avebe, a large, 100 plus years old food producer from Europe, will discuss modernizing the production of starches to improve quality and avoid the retirement tsunami. 
  • Industrialists Become Developers. Engie: the German utility will show off ROBIN, its own in-house platform for predictive maintenance, safety, asset status and other metrics that it plans to offer companies within its corporate umbrella. Uniper, Air Liquide, and Petronas are likewise prepping software and services that will get sold to third parties.
  • We Know Why You're Calling. MPWIK, a water utility from Poland, will show how it can determine the location of a system failure before the customers gives their address. (MPWIK has in the past also shown how social media can be used to reduce power consumption.)

OSIsoft of course will also provide updates on its product road-maps and strategies while OSIsoft partners such as Senseye, enerGQ, Owl Cyber Defense and others will be discussing their latest.
