PI World Barcelona: by the numbers

Couldn't make it to PI World in Barcelona this year? Or were there but couldn't make it to all of the 154 talks? If so, here are some numbers that jumped out at us.

8,000. The number of variables in a welding line that automotive component manufacturer Gestamp tracks to improve quality and reduce scrap, said Isabel Coviedas. With the PI System, Gestamp can move from a relatively low resolution view of its welding data to seeing it in real time.

68. The number of welding lines Gestamp wants to bring real time visibility to by 2020.

54%. The percentage of Iberdrola's generating capacity that comes from clean energy. The company is #1 in wind in Europe and the U.K. and #3 in the U.S., Mexico and Brazil.

600 Million Euros. The amount Iberdrola expects to add to EBITDA through digitization by 2022.

23GW. The amount of renewable assets (solar and wind) PowerFactors helps optimize through its cloud-based services.

163 Zettabytes. The amount of digital data that will be generated annually by 2025, noted OSIsoft vice president of marketing Dominic John, citing IDC statistics.

41 Zettabytes. The amount of the above total that will be real-time data. PS, a zettabyte is a one with 21 zeros behind it.

$2.5 Million. The amount a utility on an island can save annually in reduced fuel consumption by more acutely orchestrating how it manages its renewable assets, according to Patrick Lee of Pxise Energy Solutions.

Five Years. The time it can take for a pharmaceutical manufacturer to get regulatory approval to start producing at a new traditional type of production facility, i.e. one based on stainless steel equipment, according to Petter Moree, Industry Principal for Life Sciences at OSIsoft.

15 Weeks. The amount of time it can take to get approval for the emerging “single use” facilities. The difference? Fermentation in these facilities takes place in disposable plastic bags. Real-time data analytics are required for these processes.

89%. The amount of Paraguay's power that comes from the Itaipu dam. It also produces 13% of Brazil's power and generated a record 103 million megawatt hours in 2016.

24 UARs. A UAR analyzes vibration and other data on a dam to track its structural integrity and ultimately serve up any warnings. Itaipu pulls up the data every 30 minutes with the PI System. (Itaipu also uses the PI System to manage power production.)

500 Million Liters. The amount of water Southern Water delivers to its customers at the very bottom of England. Southern has also been using the PI System to help it predict and prevent potential sewerage overflows.

20%: The percentage of desalinated water produced worldwide by Saline Water Conversion Corporation, one of the primary water organizations of Saudi Arabia. SWCC has created approximately 400 PI Vision screens to help manage the job.

100 Years. The age of some of the hydropower assets managed by Eidsiva in Norway. The company is using the PI System and image capture technology to better monitor water levels and prevent floods. More on this in a separate story.

1288. The number of customers and partners who signed up for PI World Barcelona.
