OSIsoft Brings PI System to Amazon Web Services

Tongji University, Carnegie Mellon University, International Green Campus Alliance, Microsoft and OSIsoft, LLC. signed an agreement to collaborate on Smart Campus at the International Green Campus Alliance (IGCA) Conference yesterday, May 14, 2014. Dr. Siegfried Zhiqiang Wu, Vice President of Tongji University and Chairman of IGCA, Prof. Dr. Ing. Dr. h.c. Volker Hartkopf, Director of the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics (CBPD) in the School of Architecture of Carnegie Mellon University and a founding member of IGCA, and Ms. Ruth Yen, Honorary Advisory Board Member of Carnegie Mellon University CBPD and Vice Chair of IGCA were present at this signing ceremony. The joint pilot project will demonstrate ways that the power of connection and advanced analytics can bring the campus to the next generation sustainable environment.

An example of this vision is the implementation at Carnegie Mellon University over the last few years where the CBPD (Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics), a global leader in high-performance buildings and systems integration for closed-cycle energy, material, water and waste design, has led the way in advanced building technologies and design. With a similar focus, Tongji University in China has done tremendous work as the pioneer in sustainability-oriented campuses and has been leading the efforts with the Green Campus Alliance.
“With the PI System as our data infrastructure, we now have the ability to be more proactive and innovative towards connected Campus,” said Dr. Siegfried Zhiqiang Wu, Vice President of Tongji University.

This is particularly true in the electric utility industry where the PI System has been recognized as the premier enterprise data infrastructure for Smart Grids in the United States. Carnegie Mellon University has been using the PI System since 2007 for our 'Intelligent Workspace' and we are delighted to share our experience and success with Tongji University in China,” said Dr. h.c. Volker Hartkopf, Director of the CBPD.
“This joint pilot project for Tongji University will showcase the new technology, advanced analytics and visualization tools, and the value of OSIsoft's PI System to create connected campuses and connected cities. Tongji University has always been at the leading edge of sustainability development. Using latest innovation like asset-based, configurable analytics and streaming data infrastructure, this joint effort will raise industry's technology and academic innovation to the next level,” says Ann Moore, Director, Industry and Market Principal at OSIsoft.
Tongji University is one of the leading universities directly under the State Ministry of Education in China. It offers degree programs both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university has School of Sciences, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, School of Civil Engineering , Mechanical School, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Material Science and Engineering, School of Electronics and Information Engineering, School of Traffic and Transportation, Medical School, School of Liberal Arts and Law, School of Foreign Languages, School of Economics and Management, School of Software Engineering and the School of Ocean and Earth Science. In addition, there are the Institute of Further Education, Institute of Higher Technology, Institute of Vocational and Technical Education, Institute of E-Education, Women's College, Institute of Automobile Marketing and Sino-German Institute which is authorized by Chinese and German governments to run postgraduate courses. There are also six university hospitals located on different campuses.
The university now registers over 50,000 students at all levels from certificate and diploma courses to Bachelors Degrees, Masters and PhD programs and post-doctoral studies. There are over 4200 academic staff for teaching and/or research, among whom there are 6 Members of the Chinese Academy of Science, 7 Members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, over 710 professors and 1500 associate professors. The university offers diverse courses in its 82 Bachelors Degrees, 218 Masters, 94 PhD programs and 16 post-doctoral mobile stations. As one of the state's leading centers for scientific research, the university has 22 of the state's key laboratories and engineering research centers.
