Each production unit in Slovnaft has had issues with control loops. If there are control loops in field which are not working correctly then there can be operational problems (for example the requested level of vessels will not be reached). This is the reason why engineers are designing Control Loops to have good performance in good time. If Control Loops are correctly parametrized then processes can reach defined results and everything works fine. The problem is if controllers are being used in MANUAL mode (unjustifiably) or production has problems with instrumentation. These reasons are why Slovnaft started the activity of Control Loop Monitoring where they are comparing actual mode with desired mode (in the first step) and then they are using real-time data to try to find some corrective actions for optimisation. To fulfill this activity Slovnaft needed to have a really good online monitoring system. They decided to use the PI System to create this tool. This presentation will be about motivation to start the activity of control loop monitoring and the development of Slovnaft’s visualization tool.
Peter studied at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in field of Automation and Cybernetics. He got master degree in 2008. After school he started career as designer of I&C (Instrumentation and Control). After short period he moved to Invensys company, where he had a first contact with DCS and ESD controllers. He continued career in this company for 6 years as application engineer. After this period of time he continued in field of process automation and information in other companies. He started job in SLOVNAFT,a.s. situated in Bratislava in June 2017. His position is Senior Control Engineer and he is focusing on implementation of Process Automation data solutions in PI, developping supportive tools, design of ESD and DCS strategies etc.
