The Ultimate Security Solution for the PI Environment

IEC Israel Electric Corp faced a big challenge overcoming the separation of their operational network and management network: the PI System collects data from the DCS systems in the operational network, but all their PI System users are on the management network. IEC needed a solution other than a firewall that could prevent 100% pass of information from the management network to the operational network (one-way data transfer). A unique hardware and software solution called PI-WATERFALL was developed for this purpose and has proven foolproof; it received approval from Israeli authorities as a one-way security solution. The solution was deployed to seven PI systems at all major power stations at IEC and has been is working for two years already. Significance: A unique security solution enables critical plants like power stations and other infrastructure organizations to have a fully secured network and still use the PI System with all its benefits.
