Business Challenge
AMI and Smart Grid projects had to deal with millions of assets (meters, power distribution devices, etc.) for which real time information needed to be organized. These systems also needed to be highly auto-configurable so new equipment could be added and their associated data collected and processed automatically. Generic configurations for calculations such as time aggregates and event processing were also mandatory.

Implementation
Implementation of PI AF for AMI was sped up by the availability of a powerful SDK, that allows for rapid and massive configuration and customization through programming. Additionally, taking care of creating equipments instances and structures in PI AF as well as linking the relevant real-time information was easily accomplished because of the availability of Standard Smart Connectors.
