Mining PI System Data to Improve Profit
Boise Inc. is a major paper manufacturer and long term PI user. Recently they implemented Envoy Development’s Cluster Analysis Tool. This presentation will focus on how they used this data mining tool to save $1.5 million in chemical costs at one site alone. They will also show how the application identified a mechanical issue on a vacuum pump that was responsible for a large increase in sheet breaks.
This application mines data from PI on a scheduled basis to identify what variables impact Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), using a unique patented approach and displayed on a KPI dashboard. The dashboard display can either be a web page that is generated at run time or a ProcessBook page with manually created links. Unlike other KPI dashboards, the focus is not on showing the KPI’s value in real time, but rather on identifying the variables that caused it to change, sometimes very subtlety.
