Xcel’s Smart Grid City
Dennis Stephens, Director of Utility Innovations and Smart Grid Investments at Xcel Energy, describes a “blueprint for a connected, intelligent grid community”. The drivers for change, such as grid reliability, environmental concerns, security, and consumer choices are discussed in depth. New efforts in the smart grid section include smart meters, superconducting cables, energy storage devices, and intelligent appliances. Xcel energy has partnered up with many companies, including OSIsoft, to deliver the “SmartGridCity” in Boulder, Colorado.
