Fossil Generating Unit Startup Process Monitoring and Improvement Using PI Tools

Due to significant competition in power generation, Entergy’s Fossil Operations is focused on improving the commercial value of its fleet by improving performance, reliability, and flexibility. Entergy® has implemented an Operations Information System across its fleet to identify and leverage opportunities to monitor and optimize all aspects of unit operations including the startup process. We will present how Entergy has incorporated PI tools into an application which monitors and reports on the startup process in real-time. The tool is used by plant operations personnel to improve startup consistency, protect plant equipment, and promote safe operation while reducing the startup time and the startup cost of our generating units.
