Automated Batch Monitoring Reports Using Microsoft Excel and the PI-SDK

OSIsoft’s PI System has been installed and used at Firmenich’s Chemical Manufacturing Center in Port Newark since 2002. The site uses Fisher PROVOX and Emerson DeltaV control systems. Phase I of the PI implementation project was oriented toward the acquisition of continuous data from these control systems. Phase II consisted of the implementation of batch data acquisition and reporting. Both the PI Batch Generator and Batch Event File Monitor interfaces are used to acquire the batch context in the PI Batch Database. Firmenich has developed, over the years, a series of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to provide detailed insight on batch process performance. These Excel reports have been extensively automated using a combination of BatchView, DataLink, PI-SDK and Visual Basic for Applications. The resulting reports are simple to use and provide the flexibility necessary to support the operation of dedicated and multi-product operations.
