OSIsoft Announces the Release of PI for StreamInsight

PI for StreamInsight brings complex event processing to the PI System with Microsoft StreamInsight

San Leandro, California – (June 1, 2011) – OSIsoft, LLC (www.osisoft.com), provider of the PI System and the leader in real-time data and events infrastructure solutions, today announced the release of PI for StreamInsight, adding complex event processing capability to the industry leading manufacturing operational infrastructure that is the PI System.

PI for StreamInsight enables users to process and analyze events using Microsoft StreamInsight and the PI System. Microsoft StreamInsight is a Complex Event Processing (CEP) platform used to develop and deploy event driven applications. OSIsoft’s PI for StreamInsight features StreamInsight adapters that allow PI System events to be streamed to Microsoft StreamInsight and output Microsoft StreamInsight events to the PI System. OSIsoft customers using Microsoft StreamInsight and PI for StreamInsight can now use a new declarative query language to detect complex events from operational and manufacturing data. The complex events are historized in the PI System and can be delivered to users and systems leveraging the notification capabilities of the PI System.

“PI for StreamInsight enables StreamInsight developers to easily connect PI System data sources to their Microsoft StreamInsight applications. The StreamInsight CEP engine is perfectly suited to process the streaming data from the rich data sources that the PI System aggregates. StreamInsight’s integration with Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET and its Language Integrated Query (LINQ) syntax make it easy to formulate low-latency analytics and highly scalable KPIs over PI System data sources. Combining these technologies brings a new way to explore and find information in customer data,” explained Torsten Grabs, lead program manager for Microsoft StreamInsight.

“Companies and organizations in all industries are turning to advanced analytics to process the growing amount of available data,” said Tom Fiske, Ph.D., senior analyst at ARC Advisory Group. “Within the data lies incredible opportunity to improve operations. The trick is to turn that data into useful information in a timely fashion. PI for StreamInsight allows users to constantly monitor, extract, analyze, and correlate data for trends and events that improve efficiency, capture opportunities, and avoid or mitigate the effects of negative events.”

“We are pleased to add PI for StreamInsight to our PI System analytics suite,” said John Baier, director of product management at OSIsoft. “PI for StreamInsight will allow for added advanced event processing that can help to provide better overall data quality and turn raw data into concise information. This helps PI System users to customize powerful analytics on their own using familiar Microsoft programming tools.”
