Roadmap to Secure Control Systems in the Chemical Sector

Get Microsoft Silverlight

Today’s chemical industry dedicates considerable time and resources toward ensuring the safety of its personnel, customers, and surrounding community. In today’s environment of growing cyber threats, a chemical plant is not safe unless it is secure. With the chemical industry’s heavy reliance on automation and system connectivity, it is essential to ensure the security of a facility’s process control systems. In 2009, the Chemical Sector, in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security, published the “Roadmap to Secure Control Systems in the Chemical Sector.” The Roadmap presents a vision, along with a supporting framework of goals and milestones, to improve the cyber security posture of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) within the sector. In 2010, a public-private working group formed focused on the implementation of the Roadmap. This session will provide an overview of the Roadmap, describe collaborative efforts underway in the working group, communicate progress made toward Roadmap milestones, and provide information about resources available to support the cyber security improvement goals outlined in the Roadmap. The public-private working group consists of owners and operators of trade association member companies represented in the Chemical Sector Coordinating Council and Department of Homeland Security resources from the Chemical Sector-Specific Agency and the National Cyber Security Division (Control Systems Security Program).
