Industrial Scale Demand Response
Demand Response is a smart grid strategy to manage electrical energy transmission and distribution congestion. It may come to your house in the future. For Alcoa, it has been reality since 2005. Alcoa’s Warrick Operations Smelter participates in demand response with the Midwest ISO. Careful coordination allows Alcoa to realize lower operating costs and helps the Midwest ISO deliver reliable power to ten states and one province. Brian will explain how they perform demand response, the role of the PI System, and the importance of communication with the Midwest ISO.
