A power company used the PI System to build an application that monitors around 500 data points for each turbine with a subset of these monitored at high frequency. The high frequency millisecond data is captured in a circular buffer in a dedicated recorder such as a Programmable Logic Controller. When a trip happens, the buffered millisecond data (from 5 minutes prior and 5 minutes after the trip) is transferred to the PI System. An engineer can then analyze the trip events by looking at the all of the turbine data using the PI System trend and batch monitoring tools.
