The PI System is used to generate timely plant performance report overviews and on-demand operations data summaries, including inventories; alarm summaries; reconciled and balanced data; data aggregated by event such as production run or process batches; and data totals by shift, day or product run. Performances of different process areas are compared to determine which areas are performing well and which areas are underperforming. Operations management can "drill down" and determine why an area is underperforming and when it happened. This is a major improvement over monthly reports, which resulted in long lag times before the information was available and severely limited the ability to analyze what went wrong.
