The PI System can be deployed to provide manual control of the hydrogen system in refining, where dumping hydrogen into the fuel system is very expensive. In a complex hydroprocessing refinery, without a comprehensive information system, it is difficult to assess whether too much hydrogen is being produced at the hydrogen plant, while excess hydrogen from the reformer is being downgraded to fuel.
