Joint Venture Partners Sharing PI

A BP, Devon, and Burlington joint venture installed a common PI server which allows the three major partners to share operational data in real time without having to put in separate SCADA systems, etc. In addition to providing users with data from both a UNIX-based SCADA system and a Microsoft-based system, it meets all of stringent security rules allowing data to be shared between the companies. It allows collection of a very large number of tags to be managed effectively with multiple users easily accessing the system. PI also allows interfaces to each of the different companies’ unique analysis systems. Interfaces include PI to PI, RDBMS, OPC, DAP and a custom SCADA interface. There are also rudimentary reports being generated and sent out automatically to other small working interest partners. The companies are working through options to further gain value from the joint system.
